The "Katagami Series" are kaleidoscopes by Yasuko Nakazato. Katagami, the paper stencils traditionally used in the dyeing of fabric for kimono and other garments, were brought to Europe and America in the second half of the nineteenth centruy. Their beautiful designs and technical refinement were so impressive that they had a big influence on arts and crafts oversees. Yasuko Nakazato uses these traditional paper stencils and Washi paper under clear glass to create beautiful kaleidoscope bodies. Each one is a different piece of art. These beautiful scopes come with either a modified 3 mirror system or a two mirror system. These kaleidoscopes have an oil filled cell and produce detailed images in beautiful colors. 8 1/4"L x 3 1/4"W x 3/4"T.
