"Metropolis III Art Scope" is a parlor kaleidoscope by Skeeter and Peter DeMattia from 1993.  This is a closed edition one-of-a-kind kaleidoscope.  This sculpture has an open ring gear standing on end, with the kaleidoscope held in place inside the open gear by solid steel rods.  The ring gear is welded to a fan clutch and the whole scope swivels on its base.  The scope is made from a piece of flag pole and it has a 30 degree mirror angle.  The end turner on the scope is made of steel.  This scope has a 2-mirror system and the object cell is dry, end-lit, and includes lampworked glass and special glass objects.  The sculpture measures 20-1/2"T x 15"W x 11"L.  The scope itself is 11"L x 3" in diameter and it is named "Metropolis III".
