"Temari Ball 2" is a kaleidoscope by Yukinobu Kitamura. Temari Balls are a form of folk art and Japanese craft originating in China and introduced to Japan around the 7th century A.D. Temari are highly valued and cherished gifts, symbolizing deep friendship and loyalty. The brilliant colors and threads used to create them are symbolic of wishing the recipient a brilliant and happy life. The artist wraps embroidery thread around an inner core of chaff using only his hands and eyes, without the use of tools, creating the beautiful exterior body of the kaleidoscope. The patterns on the balls are often similar to kaleidoscopic imagery.

This scope has a 2-mirror system and a 'tilt-to-light' internal lighting system. When you tilt the scope down to look at the internal images the light comes on inside the scope. The non-turning, oil-filled object chamber includes colorful lampworked glass. The object cell can be accessed by removing the base of the scope which is held in place by magnets. This scope measures approximately 7-½"T x 3-½" in diameter.
