'Asanoha Cylinder' is a delightful handheld kaleidoscope by Japanese artist Kazuko Hayashi. The body was constructed of 4 stained glass panels, the front and back in vivid green with a traditional Japanese "Asanoha" pattern - overlapping geometric hexagons that mimic the look of a hemp leaf and symbolize wishes for good health, growth, and longevity, and is often used in textiles, woodwork, crafts, and as a pattern on clothing for infants. The two side panels are a fantastic purple/golden iridescent stained glass. Inside is a magnificent 3-mirror, 17-point system, and there is a spinning, oil-filled object cylinder containing handmade lampwork glass pieces, assorted small glass tiles that also have the "Asanoha" pattern on them, and other sparkly things. Scope creates absolutely MAGICAL kaleidoscopic imagery, try using different lighting (such as a UV Black Light) to experience alternate views and coloring! Measures approximately 6"L x 1"T x 2"W at the viewing end and the object cylinder is about 3.5"L. Signed (KAZU <3) by the artist.
