'Mariposa', Spanish for "butterfly", is a magnificent parlor kaleidoscope by British artist and scope master, Marc Tickle. This incredible work of art's 3 sided body is made of two glass panels that have underlying hand painted art in stunning colors, with a third side in clear glass that shows you exactly what is happening inside. There is also a triangular viewing port at the very top of the piece that gives the ultimate kaleidoscopic imagery when gazing in. Inside there is colorful custom made art featuring 3-dimensional butterflies with vines and leaves also in the design. The turning, oil-filled, black background object cell contains Marc's own handmade lampwork glass pieces, Millefiori glass, a genuine Pearl, and dichroic glass bits. This is a 2-mirror, 4-point system that, through the magic of mirrors, appears as a floating kaleidoscopic image inside the body. Piece measures approximately 12"T x 5.75"W x 8.5"D. This is a collectors dream scope. Signed (M. Tickle), dated ('25), titled ('Mariposa'), and numbered (6/25) by the artist.
From the artist; "I cut away a portion of both mirrors which creates the central pedestal, upon which is the moving mandala. The illuminated/decorated base inside, surrounding the central pedestal is drawn, painted and gilded. I made the initial sketch and color selections, then printed that design onto archival paper, then I go back and individually customize the rest of the design, adding the metallic paint and details such as the dots etc... the edition is made up of 25 pieces, but they are all different in the way I decorate and illuminate the base design."
