"The Cardinal" is a darling sculptural kaleidoscope by American artist Sue Rioux. The body of this scope was sculpted with polymer clay and has hand painted detailing. The viewing port is at the back of the bird's head and held in his beak is a glass, turning, oil-filled object cylinder, which contains many colorful beads, lampwork glass bits, and dichroic (color-shifting) glass pieces, and a cute glass 'candy cane' bead on each end. Inside the bird's head is a 2-mirror, 5-point system that creates fantastical 'mandala-style' kaleidoscopic imagery. Bird measures approximately 7.75"T x 6.25"L x 3.5"W, and the object cylinder is around 3"L, and includes a rotating wooden base for bird to perch upon. Signed (Sue Rioux) and dated (2022) by the artist.
