This is "Alpha #1", a fabulous parlor kaleidoscope by John Grimberg. Taking several hundred hours to design and machine, there were only three units made. Each one is anodized with a different finish color, numbered, signed and dated. This scope comes with a custom designed pedestal to which the scope solidly mounts. The pedestal is wired with a halogen lamp that is specifically designed to illuminate the image with a particular warmth and glow. These scopes have a 2-mirror system and the internal image is created by several hand lampworked glass pieces made by glass artist Leslie Ann Bitgood, along with a few machined and found metal objects. Each kaleidoscope comes with two interchangeable object chambers, one each with a black and silver background color. The object chambers are user accessible so that any number of objects could be added or subtracted to allow the user to customie the image to fit his or her particular taste. This scope on the table measures 57"T. The table top is 20" in diameter.
