"Brewster's Heraldic Shield" is a collaboration piece by Marc Tickle and his father, Derik Tickle. Sir David Brewster was the inventor of kaleidoscopes and Derik designed Brewster's heraldic shield by placing the Brewster name on a scroll below the shield, while another scroll reads "Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy". Above the shield, Sir David's iconic brass kaleidoscope can be seen in the design. Inside the sculptural base of this piece, golden spheres, which appear to float above the base image, are set in Fibonaccian sequence and represent Kalos, Eidos and Scopeo. The actual working kaleidoscope sets at the top of the structure and is a 5-point, 2-mirror system and produces and utterly stunning kaleidoscopic effect. This the first of a limited edition of 10. The entire piece is approximately 23"T and the kaleidoscope is approximately 15"L x 5"W. Signed, dated, and numbered (1/10) by the artist.

Derick Tickle is the current heraldic artist for the 'Middle Temple' and 'House of Lords' in London, a post that has been held since the 1500's. He is a heraldic painter, which means he paints the 'Heraldic Arms for the Lords'. A heraldic shield is an illuminated coat of arms, surrounded by scrolls defining the recipients academic accomplishments and points of merit.
