Product Details
'Escape From The Flatline' is an exciting little handheld kaleidoscope by Japanese artist, TSUNO. This octahedron shaped scope has 8 sides total of slightly textured, black/rainbow sheen (almost like rainbow obsidian) glass panels making it's elegant body. There is a turning, dry, glass object cell, with a frosted, translucent backdrop, and filled with the most delicate, teeny-tiny, and fanciful handmade lampwork glass bits and pieces I've ever seen. This scope creates gorgeous, mind-bending, intricate, and delightful chorus line kaleidoscopic imagery. If you're a fan of scopes that create highly detailed, unusual images, this one will not disappoint. Measures approximately 3.75" Squared, object cell is about 1.25"Diameter. Signed by the artist.
- From the artist;
"The rectangular two-mirror system used in this kaleidoscope produces a band-like, continuous symmetry. Through this continuity, I visualize a state referred to as “flatline.”
Even within what appears to be a flatline state, there may still be the possibility of consciousness. When the object cell at the tip is rotated, the image shifts. This transformation serves as a metaphor for the subtle wavering of awareness.
If the time spent looking into this kaleidoscope can gently shift, even slightly, one’s sense of death — a passage everyone will eventually face — I would consider that its quiet intention."
