'Large Sphere' ('88-'92) is a large, vintage and RARE custom parlor/handheld kaleidoscope by American artist David York from 1988 - 1992. David created this 'Large Sphere' for someone named Corrine and this version is absolutely SPECTACULAR as it features a stained-glass Crescent Moon and Star on each side panel of magnificent rainbow onyx glass that has a mirror-like surface. This scope was usually created with single piece glass panels in various colors so this is a rare and unique version. There are two object wheels, one is a stained-glass star in rainbow colors, the other has glass pebbles, faceted gems, a fused glass cabochon, and genuine seashells. Remove the wheels and switch them around for even more magical images, through this tapered 3-mirror system, which creates a perfect floating sphere of magnificent kaleidoscopic imagery. Measures approximately 17.5"L x 4.75"W x 4"T at the viewing end, and object wheels are 5.25"Diameter. Comes with a wooden parlor stand, easily removable by sliding it off to use the scope as a handheld. Signed (for Corrine, D York) by the artist.
