Product Details
'Mizuhiki' is a lovely handheld kaleidoscope by Japanese artist duo, Kyoko & Toru Kiribayashi. Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese art form and the decorative paper cord used for it. Made by twisting tight strips of washi (rice paper) stiffened with glue, the cords are often wrapped in colorful silk, foil, or paper. They are intricately tied into symbolic knots used to bind gifts, monetary envelopes, and festive decorations. The body is an acrylic tube that is expertly covered in Mizuhiki with a beautiful floral knot accentuating the overall design. There is a non-turning, dry, front lit, enclosed object cell with a translucent white background. Inside the cell are tiny handmade lampwork glass pieces in colors that compliment the outer body design, and together with the 2-mirror, 7-point system, creates gorgeous "mandala-style" kaleidoscopic imagery. Measures approximately 5"L x 1.5" in diameter. Signed (Kiry) on the cell end by the artists.
