Product Details
'Verde Valley Copper Mining' (COLLECTORS ALERT!) is an industrial themed and incredibly detailed parlor kaleidoscope by retired Australian artists Robert Cook & Jocelyn Teh, of 'Arcana Kaleidoscopes'. This extremely rare and unique kaleidoscope features a dioramic cut-out window in the side of it's body allowing a peek into the copper mine to see men working. This scope features three different mirror systems inside with two turning object wheels, one created with genuine agate slices, the other is various colored stained-glass pieces. There is a frontal brass plaque telling the story of Jerome the "Copper Queen". There is much to discover in this masterfully crafted collector's piece such as; a coyote peering up a ladder, a mounted yet removable tiny telescope at the top, multiple carts carrying genuine copper bits and pieces, miners peeking from various places, many functioning gears, pulleys, and nine small gears in a circle, each holding a tiny scroll with different educational facts about Jerome and the Verde Valley. There are many other things to explore in this super fun and interesting kaleidoscope. Entire piece is mounted onto a thick slice of natural Australian eucalyptus hardwood. Measures approximately 14.5"T x 13.5"W x 10"D, the object wheels are 6.25"Diameter.
*In honor of its "Verde Valley Copper Mining" namesake, the scope body features a rugged yet elegant exterior composed of brass with patinated copper elements. Unlike some of Arcana's standard bare metal finishes this edition is sealed in a two-point baked epoxy finish, which preserves the metalwork and protects it from oxidation. While undated, the "No. 6051" represents one of their later-period studio productions. This one-of-a-kind piece was specifically created for the 'Nellie Bly Kaleidoscopes' gallery (the oldest and largest kaleidoscope store in the world) and coincides with the store's commissioning of exclusive international studio kaleidoscopic artworks.
