"Orthoceras Parlor" is a one-of-a-kind parlor kaleidoscope by Arizona artist Steve Failows. A genuine Orthoceras cluster of fossils make the pedistal for this 360 degree, rotating kaleidoscope. The scope body is made of ceramic with a deep, glossy black glaze which compliments the black and white fossils. There is a tapered, 3-mirror system which produces wonderful, 3-D spherical imagery. This scope has dual stained glass object wheels (approximately 5" diameter) and an unusually large viewing port, allowing for comfortable veiwing with both eyes. This total piece stands approximately 13"T x 14"D x 12"W and the actual scope itself is approximately 11 1/2"L x 5"W at the eyepeice end.

*Orthoceras is a genus of extinct nautiloid cephalopod, restricted to Middle Ordovician-aged marine limestones of the Baltic States and Sweden, they lived around 345 - 395 million years ago. These long, cone-shaped creatures are the ancestors of the modern-day squid*
